We are looking for an inspiring and forward‑thinking Assistant Head of Department to help lead our Multi‑Skills & Trowel Trades provision. If you’re passionate about high‑quality teaching, developing staff, and driving student success, this is a fantastic opportunity to take the next step in your leadership career.
 
Our Construction & Building Services department plays a vital role in preparing the next generation of skilled tradespeople. As Assistant Head of Department, you’ll work closely with the Head of Department to shape the curriculum, support staff, and ensure every learner receives an outstanding experience.
You’ll help lead and develop the following curriculum areas:

  • Construction Multi‑Skills
  • Property Maintenance Operations
  • Bricklaying

You’ll enjoy a varied, hands‑on leadership role with the flexibility to work across two thriving learning environments.
 
In this influential role, you will:

  • Support the Head of Department in managing and developing the curriculum, staff and resources
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning and assessment
  • Track and monitor performance to ensure excellent outcomes for students
  • Inspire staff and students to achieve their full potential
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and innovation

What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking someone who brings both expertise and energy to the role. You’ll need:

  • Extensive teaching experience within Further Education
  • Strong understanding of the FE sector and relevant industry knowledge
  • Up‑to‑date Health & Safety awareness
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • A recognised teaching qualification (DET, DTLLS, Cert Ed, PGCE)

A background in construction is not essential. What matters most is your deep understanding of FE teaching, learning and assessment, your commitment to quality, and your proven ability to lead and develop teams effectively.
