Role Title: Functional Skills Tutor (Maths & English) – ALN Focus
Contract: 2 days a week contract – 12 month FTC with the view to make permanent.

The Role
The Functional Skills Tutor will be responsible for delivering Maths and English qualifications to learners, with a particular emphasis on supporting those with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) such as dyslexia, ADHD, and related challenges. The role combines teaching, learner support, and developing strategies to help trainers better accommodate ALN learners in both remote and classroom environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Functional Skills Maths & English sessions, primarily to learners with ALN.
- Adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet individual learning needs.
- Manage a caseload of around 20 learners, ensuring timely progression and achievement.
- Deliver ~70% of sessions remotely and ~30% at the training centre in the Peterborough/Yaxley area.
- Work with colleagues to introduce and embed practical classroom strategies for supporting ALN learners.
- Lead on developing ALN provision across the organisation (currently limited, highlighted in a recent inspection).
- Monitor and report learner progress, ensuring compliance with quality and funding requirements.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified to deliver Functional Skills Maths & English (teaching qualification desirable).
- Experience working with ALN learners and adapting delivery accordingly.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage a small caseload effectively.
- Confident delivering both online and in-person teaching.
- Collaborative approach, with the ability to support other trainers in developing inclusive practices.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: £28,000 – £32,000 FTE
- Location: Hybrid – 70% remote, 30% centre-based (Peterborough / Yaxley).
- Travel: Mileage paid at 45ppm for centre delivery.
- Caseload: Approx. 20 learners.
