Plumbing Assessor – South (London, Kent, Hampshire)

Location: Home-based with travel across London, Kent, and occasional trips to Hampshire

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Hours: 35 hours per week 

Salary: Up to £39,250 per annum (dependent on skills and experience)

About the Role
Are you a fully qualified Plumber, Gas Engineer, Heating & Plumbing Technician, Maintenance Plumber, Commercial Plumber, or Plumbing Supervisor looking to move away from the tools?

This is a fantastic opportunity to step into a training officer / assessor role, mentoring apprentices and helping them achieve their full potential. You’ll use your practical plumbing experience to guide learners through their journey, ensuring they meet industry standards, achieve qualifications, and develop lifelong careers.

As a Plumbing Training Officer / Assessor, you’ll manage apprentices across your region, liaise with employers, and support all aspects of assessment, progress tracking, and development. You’ll also act as a key point of contact between apprentices, employers, and colleges, ensuring training is delivered effectively and safely.

Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality assessment and support services to plumbing apprentices within your designated region, managing caseloads and supporting employers to meet training standards in line with regulatory and awarding body requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source new apprentice placements and coordinate college attendance, ensuring employers understand their responsibilities and assessment requirements
  • Carry out apprentice progress reviews and validate skills gap analyses to confirm correct pathway placement
  • Conduct assessments of practical and theoretical evidence against National Occupational Standards (NOS) and awarding body requirements
  • Give constructive feedback and set SMART development targets
  • Support apprentices with evidence submission and portfolio mapping, ensuring timely completion
  • Identify apprentices at risk of non-completion and arrange appropriate interventions
  • Undertake pre-End Point Assessment (EPA) training and confirm apprentice readiness at gateway
  • Maintain professional relationships with employers, external partners, and industry bodies
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding and health & safety policies, reporting concerns promptly
  • Maintain CPD to meet awarding body and assessor standards
  • Respond professionally to queries or issues raised by employers, learners, or stakeholders
  • Support industry events and promote apprenticeship opportunities where required
  • Complete administration and reporting accurately and on schedule

Person Specification
Essential:

  • Advanced Craft Certificate in Plumbing, Plumbing NVQ3, or equivalent
  • Current ACS Gas Qualification or within range for renewal
  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification plumbing experience in mechanical services or building services environments
  • GCSE English & Maths (A-C / 9-4) or equivalent

Desirable:

  • Assessor qualifications (A1, D32/D33, TAQA)
  • Health & Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely)
  • G3 Qualification – Unvented Hot Water
  • Water Regulations knowledge
  • Energy Efficiency knowledge
